The Erftverband is a non-profit organisation under public law, with a focus on a healthy environment and the common good. Its overall area of operations comprises 4,220km² with approximately 2.7 million inhabitants. The Erftverband plans, builds and operates groundwater measurement facilities, wastewater treatment plants, stormwater basins, flood water retention reservoirs and maintains the water courses in the Erft river catchment area.
